Basque Suites was written for Michael Matsuno, flute, and Stella Cho, ‘cello; and was premiered in 2011 at the University of Southern California.

The duo has also been performed by flautists Sara Andon and Pamela Vliek-Martchev, and cellists Timothy Loo, Rainer Crosett, and Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick.

The work takes its inspiration from Robert Motherwell’s iconic 1970-1971 series of screenprints, The Basque Suite.
